Course Selection & Transition Timeline 2026-2027
5th to 6th Grade Transition
January 8: Principal Dimoulas' Parent Transition Invitation Letter...outlining the transition process. This includes specifics on Math placement, Music, and World Language choices.
- January 27: Preview of MMS Musical Production, Bye, Bye Birdie!, 5th Grade field trip to MMS
- February 10 (6:00 pm): 5th Grade Parents MMS Orientation Night in the MMS Auditorium. Topics include courses, teams, and the scheduling process.
- February 24 (7:00 pm): 5th–6th Grade Math Transition (Online - Zoom Link).
- February 25 (TBD): Articulation Parent Coffee for Parents of incoming students with a 504 or IEP
- March 2: Deadline for the MMS Course Selection Form. This is also the deadline for waivers and level changes for World Language.
Late March: Recommended Math Course will be posted in Aspen. Information about math transition.
April 6 – April 10: 5th Graders visit MMS

August: Schedules are posted on Aspen approximately one week prior to the start of school

Math Placement:
We are excited to partner with you as your child transitions to middle school and begins their journey in our math program. To assist you, we have created a comprehensive Math Department Website where you can find all the information you need about:

Required Summer Readings & Math Work :
All incoming grade 6 students are expected to read "Restart" by Gordan Korman and 2 books of their choosing.
Math packets and enrichment will be available on the Summer Math Packets website.
Optional: Darien Summer School offerings, including the Voyagers transition program.
