Good afternoon, MMS Families,
What a festive week we have had at MMS, with many congratulations to be shared!
- To Viva Voce on their featured performance in Dr. Byrne’s inaugural phone message for a delayed opening due to winter weather!
- To Quiz Bowl on their spectacular success in the Southern Connecticut Regional History Bee & Bowl!
- To our students who participated in Western Regionals and to the MMS Music Department for successfully hosted last weekend!
- To all of our students who represented their classes and teams in the annual MMS Schoolwide Spelling Bee, and to Kalel Attonito on his win!
We have much to look forward to in our short week ahead as Student Council’s Seven Days of Spirit continues:
Monday, December 22
Bring your (non-distracting) stuffed animal to school day!
Grade 8 Team Day
Tuesday, December 23
Festive Gear Day!
Grade 7 Team Day
Early Dismissal (12:25)
Thank you to everyone who has donated to the Toys to Tots Drive. We will continue to collect new, unwrapped toys on Monday.
Next week, we also look forward launching year 2 of MMS’s participation in No Place For Hate, a student-led program for schools from the ADL. Through No Place For Hate, school communities commit to building a more inclusive, respectful, and safe school environment. In their work on their committee, students have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills while working against bias and bullying by planning a series of school-wide activities. On Monday, the committee is sharing an introduction to the No Place for Hate Pledge, which students will have the choice to sign in the new year.
As a reminder to our Eighth Grade Families, please refer to the announcement of our Hamilton Field Trip that was shared last week; deposits must be submitted by January 12 to secure tickets. We already have about a third of students lined up.
As the winter solstice approaches on Sunday, we mark the shortest day of the year and the arrival of winter; so too are we reminded that longer days with brighter light lie ahead.
Wishing you a lovely weekend,
Kate Dimoulas (she/her/hers)
