Good afternoon, Middlesex Families,
This week offered great opportunities for community dialogue. On Monday, students enjoyed an assembly with author Victoria Jamieson. Ms. Jamieson told our students about writing from their experiences, their truths, and their curiosities. She described her two year process to create a book and assured them, “Don’t worry if your art isn’t perfect; just share [your story].” Today, educator and author Chris Balme joined us for a virtual book talk about Finding the Magic in Middle School. He offered, from his experience and research, a framework for understanding the developmental process of this age group as well as keys to supporting their needs for belonging and autonomy. We look forward to sharing a link to a recording. Thank you to the Middlesex Parent Association for facilitating these opportunities!
Next week, Student Council invites students to wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month on Wednesday, October 29. Students are encouraged to wear school appropriate costumes on October 31, if they wish to do so. Please refrain from wearing inflatable costumes or costumes that would interfere with safe movement in classrooms/hallways; please keep all props, including weapon props, at home; masks are not allowed; and there should be no gore. We appreciate your understanding and support of these expectations so that those who wish to participate can enjoy a day of creativity and fun. Next Friday also marks the end of first quarter!
Looking ahead:
November 3: We will welcome Tanner Clark for grade level assemblies as well as an evening parent presentation!
November 4: No School – Election Day & Staff Professional Development.
November 5: Sixth graders will enjoy an assembly with Mr. Nicky, who brings history to life through music.
November 11: 8th Graders will attend a Veterans Day assembly to hear from local Veterans about their service and experiences.
November 19: Picture Retake Day. As a reminder, we will send home photo proof cards (with ordering information) as soon as we receive them!
Finally, be sure to sign up for the Middlesex Parent Association Newsletter (MPN) HERE! This is how the MPA communicates about important information, events, and volunteering opportunities to the entire parent community. You do not want to miss their weekly newsletter, which comes out every Sunday evening. They also cross post a lot of news -- like the upcoming 6th Grade Parent Social -- on their Instagram account (Middlesex Parent Association) so be sure to follow them there as well!
Have a fantastic fall weekend,
Kate
